Tiffany & Co. introduced the Streamerica collection of personal accessories and watches in 1990 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its New York headquarters.
Tiffany & Co.’s Streamerica is inspired by the aerodynamic principles of the 1939 New York World’s Fair, the Streamlined designed collection evolved from the profile of a DC-3 wing and the bolted metal sheeting of airplane construction. Steel and Industry symbolize America’s aspirations for progress and prosperity. A Timeless expression of Man’s fascination with speed and technology – and his desire to forge a better tomorrow.
The soaring form of an airplane wing inspired the Airframe Picture Frames and Airframe Perpetual Calendar.
The Airframe Perpetual Calendar is very similar to any of the Airframe Picture Frames. They have the same side stainless steel bars engraved with rivets and lines that hold the glass piece in place. One variant is that the calendar has a bottom thick glass panel at the bottom that lifts up the rest of the papers to create a look that the calendar is in the air and prevent the bottom part of the papers to be cut off by the base, like it is in the case of the photo frames.
These columns are held upright by squeezing their way into the base that has an opening covered in black rubber that securely hold the vertical frame in place.
The whole frame that contains the calendar measures 4.5” x 4.5”, while the base measures 6.25” across x 2” wide. The cardboard calendar with month title measures 3.5” wide x 3” high. This makes it as large as the largest Airframe Picture Frame, and that is also why it retailed for the same amount, $500 US dollars. It’s interesting that the bottom plate of both the calendar and photo frame are exactly the same piece.

Detailed look at the bottom piece that supports the frame in place. The top clip part is identical to all the airframe collection pieces, and snaps into place on the openings of the columns, seen above. You can also clearly see the thick bottom glass panel that holds the calendar cardboards up in place.
The Perpetual calendar is composed of 12 months and various possible dates that can each start with the day of the week, so that you can build your own monthly calendar regardless of what year it is.
Each piece in the Streamerica line is designed to complement each other to form a cohesive statement in stainless steel. These accesories are meant to be used everyday to the users enjoyment. This item looks ideal in an office setting.
