Tiffany & Co. introduced the Streamerica collection of accessories and watches in 1990 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its New York headquarters.
Tiffany & Co.’s Streamerica is inspired by the aerodynamic principles of the 1939 New York World’s Fair, the Streamlined designed collection evolved from the profile of a DC-3 wing and the bolted metal sheeting of airplane construction. The Tiffany & Co. Streamerica Airflow Ballpoint pen is one of those pieces that will be used daily from this collection in stainless steel. Heavy and thick due to its design and materials, it’s a pleasure to use. The clip is engraved Tiffany & Co. The Pen opens by unscrewing it and can be refilled with any #404 Pen Refills or with the Original Recharge Stylo Bille, from Tiffany & Co. #404, these came in Black and in Blue Inks, in Fine width.

Although not featured in many of the collection’s photographs, ads or editorials, it was featured predominantly in the regular Blue Book catalogs that were issued by Tiffany & Co. on a seasonal basis each year and for many years to come. Two of such clippings are shown below:

Each piece in the Streamerica line is designed to complement each other to form a cohesive statement in stainless steel. The Ballpoint Pen is part of the Airflow writing collection that includes an Dipping Pen, Ink Blotter and Ink well or bottle, but can be used without any of these items, since its a stand alone product. It was later reproduced in Sterling Silver in 2002.
Neiman Marcus featured a small story in one of it’s the Book Magazine/Catalogs later on in which it discusses Jorg Hysek as the designer for a new collection of writing instruments for Meta Design. Some of the designs look very similar to this ballpoint pen, mainly in its shape. Jorg Hysek is credited for designing the Streamerica collection of wristwatches and personal accessories.

Where were you able to find the refill? I can’t find these or an alternative.
Not yet, I am still using the Tiffany Brand of refills, you’d be surprised sometime these, like Cartier, are much lower in price than Office Depot refills! Usually one thinks they will be really expensive, like $20 each at Cartier, and they turn out to be less than $5 each. If you have lost the one inside the pen, I also recommend going into a Tiffany & Co. and they will match it up and give you the correct size, sometimes even for free.
I have been looking for the same refill but Tiffany doesn’t carry them any longer. Tiffany offered no help otherwise. Any other manufacturer make a refill that will work? Not even certain of the size needed as I have lost the original refill.
