Tiffany & Co. introduced the Streamerica collection of accessories and watches in 1990 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its New York headquarters.
Tiffany & Co.’s Streamerica is inspired by the aerodynamic principles of the 1939 New York World’s Fair, the Streamlined designed collection evolved from the profile of a DC-3 wing and the bolted metal sheeting of airplane construction. Steel and Industry symbolize America’s aspirations for progress and prosperity. A Timeless expression of Man’s fascination with speed and technology – and his desire to forge a better tomorrow.
Inspired by the mighty turbines of the Machine Age, the Airflow Ink bottle heavy and sleek feel allude to speed, power and precision of the streamlined design.
Streamerica is a ground-breaking collection. Never before has Tiffany featured steel as a luxury material, but no other material could convey such a powerful message of contemporary sophistication and masculinity.
Although intended to hold ink inside of this bottle, I purchased this bottle because I collected perfume bottles and thought this would make a great addition to my collection. I never really got around to filling it up with cologne or with ink for that matter, it has always remained as a display object of unsurpassed beauty.
The sheer weight of this item and its sleek feel are uncomparable to many of the other items. The stopper is sealed with a black o-ring so that the liquid inside does not evaporate. Inside of the steel body, the cavity is lined in what appears to be white porcelain or white enamelware material. The stopper also has engraved on the rim TIFFANY & CO.
