For the 1995/1996 Winter season, Thierry Mugler dashes us with “Etoile Comète” or Comet Star bottle, made from perfume extracts only produced once for a series of 5,000 numbered editions. Part of the Collection Couture.
Manufactured from the purest glass by Brosse Master Glassmakers in France, the bottle as well as the incredible Comet stopper have been meticulously hand polished by glass specialists. Each Limited Edition of “Etoile Comète” comes complete with an identification number engraved on the base of the bottle’s side and a certificate of authenticity attesting to its rarity.
This bottle retailed for $325. I purchased mine at Saks Fifth Avenue in Atlanta, GA on April 1996. Although smaller than previous years Star bottle (0.67 Fl. Oz. vrs. 2.6 Fl. Oz.), the perfume is the purest form, called Extrait de Parfum, which also make this bottle more expensive.
An article by T Chappell-Boyd in 1996 Perfume Bottle Quarterly, Vol 8, stated that “it’s the Third in a series called Etoile Comète and that it was limited to 750 bottles in the US market.” The delicate nature of this bottles stopper made it increasingly fragile, and this article mentions that “out of the 2,000 bottles made, many broke due to its design”. This contradicts the Certificate included with the bottle, that states that 5,000 were made and that it’s the second in a series.
Thierry Mugler Angel Perfume Presentation Box
The presentation box for this bottle is outstanding, completely lined in rich black velvet, with sliding panels and raised base for the bottle to rest on. On the bottom of the bottle is the mirrored sticker with the information Extrait de Parfum, 20ml and 0.6 Fl. Oz. Made in France.
Thanks for sharing, first the actual perfume would long be expired and unusable. For display purposes I would fill it with fake or generic perfume, because it looks more authentic that way. If you still have the box and papers, You could maybe get retail value, maybe a little more. Without the box maybe half or maybe $195. Check ebay’s past auctions for a better estimate on current market value.
